The meeting started with a presentation of an award to the men’s club of the Village Green at English Mill for their donation of gift cards to students whose families are in need.
There was a presentation about the use of therapy dogs in the High School by Principal Dr. Caruso. Egg Harbor Township High School has received a grant to have two therapy dogs, Charlie and Marty, in the school. Dr. Caruso said that therapy dogs are typically used in elementary school or in College but that she wants EHT to be a “groundbreaker” in having this program at the High School level.
The process of getting the therapy dogs started last June. If approved the dogs will be integrated into the school in a phased way.
Phase 1: Make sure dogs are comfortable with the 10 trained staff handlers. Hold a meet and greet.
Phase 2: Small group instruction and permission slips go out to students
Phase 3: Dogs at work, dogs will have a daily schedule
This program is funded by a grant from Atlanticare and costs the school nothing.
Budget
The budget was approved by the county and Daniel Smith, the business administrator, gave the public presentation of the budget. He stated that nothing had changed since the March presentations and gave a recap of the budget goals.
